A devastating update has emerged about the tragic death of 16 and Pregnant alum Sean Garinger, five months after his passing in February. According to documents from the medical examiner’s office in Raleigh, North Carolina, Garinger’s death was caused by a blunt force injury to the head.
The 20-year-old reality TV personality’s skull was fractured in multiple places at the time of his death. The incident occurred when Garinger was driving an ATV in his driveway in Boone, North Carolina, and the vehicle flipped, pinning him underneath.
Garinger shared two children, Dareli and Esmi, with Selena Gutierrez. His mother, Mary Hobbs, confirmed his death, revealing that she was with him when the accident happened. Hobbs recalled the heart-wrenching moment, saying, “He was just moving the ATV from one parking spot to the next for me, so I could back in to park. He pulled in front of me to park the ATV, and the ground gave way from all the rain and mud.”
Hobbs ran to get help from the neighbors, but no one answered. She returned to find her son unresponsive. “By that time, I realized he wasn’t alive anymore,” she said, her voice laced with grief. While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, Hobbs lay next to her son, cherishing the last moments with him. “There was a huge part of my heart that died with my son. He was my only son, my rock, my strength when I had none left.”

Garinger previously appeared on season 6 of 16 and Pregnant, which aired in March 2021. At the time of his death, Garinger and Gutierrez, 20, were not together, but they shared two daughters, Dareli and Esmi.
After Garinger’s passing, Gutierrez expressed her condolences, stating, “No matter the circumstances, that was my kids’ father. Not only was I with him for nine plus years, he was my first love, my first everything, and we had two beautiful daughters that I’ll always be grateful for.”
She also shared that Garinger had been doing well, having recently celebrated 200 days of sobriety and enrolling in school. “I know he was in school. He had gotten out of rehab and moved with his mom to Carolina. My heart aches for her.”
