**Kylian Mbappe Unveiled as Real Madrid Player, But Not LaLiga’s Highest Earner**
Kylian Mbappe, the French national team captain, was officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player this week, but he will not be the highest-paid player in LaLiga. Despite taking a significant pay cut to join the Spanish giants from Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappe will still be one of the top earners in the league.
The 25-year-old was presented to a packed Bernabeu stadium after completing his medical on Tuesday. He had been linked with a move to Madrid for some time, but opted to stay with PSG, who offered him a lucrative contract to remain in the French capital.
However, Mbappe’s move to Madrid has seen his wages slashed, and he will not be the highest-paid player in LaLiga. According to reports, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is the league’s top earner, with an annual salary of £31.6 million. Robert Lewandowski, his Barcelona teammate, is second on the list with £28.2 million.
Mbappe will earn £26.3 million per year, making him the third-highest paid player in LaLiga. However, he will receive a significant signing-on fee, understood to be over €100 million (£85.6 million), and will keep an 80% share of image rights on any new commercial deals he signs.
The figures come after La Liga announced the latest salary caps for all Spanish clubs last month. Real Madrid have been set the highest salary cap at €727 million (£622.5 million), while Barcelona’s salary limit has been set at just €204 million.
Mbappe is one of six Real Madrid players in the top 10 earners in LaLiga, along with Vinicius Jnr, David Alaba, Jan Oblak, Thibaut Courtois, and Federico Valverde. The only exception is Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak, who makes the top five with an annual salary of £17.5 million.
