Former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce shared his weight loss journey and approach after retiring from the NFL.
Following a 13-year career in the league, Kelce retired in March, a month after his brother Travis won the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs.
While enjoying some sweet treats lately, the soon-to-be NFL analyst revealed his simple yet effective strategy for shedding pounds without adhering to a strict diet.
“I’ve been spending time with my family at the shore, indulging in ice cream,” Kelce shared at the 35th Annual American Century Championship. “But I’m still maintaining a weight in the low 280s. My approach is simple: calories in, calories out. I don’t overcomplicate my diet or restrict myself too much.”

“I focus on eating natural, whole foods, whether plant-based or animal products, and avoid processed foods,” Kelce added. “And I make sure not to overeat. That’s been the key to losing weight effectively.”
After his retirement, Kelce set a goal to lose 35 pounds, as shared on the New Heights podcast. Months later, he seems to be on track with his weight loss plan.
“I plan to slim down,” Kelce said in March. “My target weight is 250 pounds. I recently got down to 285, but then I enjoyed cake for three days straight.”

He also shared his thoughts on extreme diets: “I don’t subscribe to extreme diets like going fully vegan, carnivore, or keto. My friend Joe Thomas lost a lot of weight on keto, and he looks great, but it’s not for me. I prefer to track my calories using an app and ensure I get enough protein to maintain muscle mass while losing weight.”
