England’s players were the subject of ridicule by Spain’s Dani Carvajal during the first half of the Euro 2024 final. About 25 minutes into the game, Bukayo Saka attempted to sprint into the English half but was tripped up by the veteran Spanish defender. The referee awarded a free kick, but the English players were dissatisfied with the decision, believing Carvajal should have been booked. Phil Foden waved his arms in frustration, while captain Harry Kane rushed to speak with the referee. In response to their protests, Carvajal mocked the English players by rubbing his eyes, insinuating that they were ‘tearing up’ over the call.

Spain ultimately emerged victorious in the match, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring a late winner for a 2-1 victory. Nico Williams opened the scoring for Spain in the second half, but substitute Cole Palmer equalized for Gareth Southgate’s team before Oyarzabal’s decisive goal.
