Sophie Perry, daughter of the late actor Luke Perry, shared a touching tribute to actress Shannen Doherty following her passing on July 13.
On Sunday, July 14, Sophie posted a nostalgic photo on social media of her father playfully interacting with his former Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star and on-screen love interest.
The Instagram Story featured a lighthearted moment between Doherty, who portrayed Brenda Walsh in the hit 1990s TV series, and Luke, who played Dylan McKay. In the photo, Doherty smiles as Luke, standing behind her, pretends to bite her pearl necklace.
Sophie’s post was simply captioned with a white heart emoji, conveying her love and emotion.
Sophie is also the daughter of Rachel “Minnie” Sharp, who was married to Luke from 1993 to 2003. The former couple shared joint custody of Sophie and her brother, Jack. Sadly, their father passed away in 2019 at the age of 52 due to a fatal stroke.
Doherty, who fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, passed away at the age of 53.
Following Luke’s passing, Doherty shared with People her fond memories of Luke and how much she had learned about his children over the years.
“Luke loved his family,” Doherty told the publication in 2019. “He raved about his kids and how proud he was of them. He showed me videos of them often.”
Sophie’s Instagram tribute joins a wave of heartfelt reactions and condolences from Hollywood celebrities, including Doherty’s former 90210 co-stars.
Tori Spelling, who portrayed Donna Martin in the series, shared via Instagram Stories that she was still searching for “outward words” to express her feelings, while Jennie Garth, who played Kelly Taylor, posted a heartfelt message on Instagram the same day.
“I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my long-time friend Shannen,” Garth, 52, wrote, accompanying two behind-the-scenes photos from the 90210 set. “The woman I often described as one of the strongest people I’ve ever known. Our connection was real and honest. While we were often pitted against each other, our relationship was based on mutual respect and admiration.”
