Paul Walter Hauser is offering his apologies to Vin Diesel after some less-than-kind remarks he made about the action star earlier this year.
In June, Hauser took a swipe at Diesel while promoting his film Inside Out 2. When a reporter compared his character to Diesel’s Groot from the Guardians of the Galaxy films, Hauser responded with a dig at Diesel’s punctuality and approachability.
The I, Tonya actor has now taken to Instagram to express regret for his comments, acknowledging that he was “fatigued” at the time and that his words were “careless” and “needlessly mean-spirited.” Hauser goes on to say that he does not know Diesel personally and that it was unfair of him to make such judgments.
Hauser’s apology comes as a surprise to some, given his reputation for being outspoken about Hollywood actors who mistreat people. However, he acknowledges that “outing” people can be momentarily satisfying but ultimately regrets the way he expressed his feelings.
The actor concludes his apology by addressing Diesel directly, thanking him for entertaining so many people and wishing him well.
While Hauser and Diesel have never worked together, Diesel has had a well-publicized feud with Dwayne Johnson, his Fast & Furious co-star. Johnson called out Diesel on Instagram in 2016, and while he didn’t mention him by name, the tension between the two was palpable.
In 2021, Johnson expressed regret for making their conflict public, telling Vanity Fair that it went against his nature to share such things. Despite the bad blood, both actors have moved on, and Diesel has not publicly responded to Hauser’s comments or apology.
