NFL Pro Bowl Quarterback Joshua Allen Has Legally Changed His Name

The Jacksonville linebacker reveals a new name and a rich athletic heritage in a video announcement on Tuesday.

The Jaguars’ Josh Allen has chosen to alter his name, as he disclosed in a video posted to X on Tuesday. The linebacker stated that he will now be known as Josh Hines-Allen, adopting the last name shared by his sisters and other family members.

‘Legacy is forever, and I’m proud to carry that tradition on the back of my jersey, following in the footsteps of my family, who have donned the Hines-Allen name with immense pride and joy,’ he expressed.

In the video, he further elaborated, ‘Family is important to me because when you come from a lineage of exceptional athletes, and being the youngest, I attended all my sisters’ games and knew of my uncles’ achievements in college and the NBA. It just holds a special significance.’

‘It was almost as if I was destined to follow in their footsteps,’ he added.

Among Josh Hines-Allen’s relatives are Myisha Hines-Allen of the WNBA’s Washington Mystics, and uncle Gregory Hines, a former Hampton University standout who was drafted by the Warriors in 1983. Additionally, his sisters LaTorri and Kyra excelled in DI and DII college basketball, respectively, and his uncle Keith played for Montclair State.

‘Although my last name has changed, I remain the same person, and I intend to perform even better,’ he asserted in the video. ‘Now, having captured the attention of those interested in my career, particularly after last year’s performance, I can shape my own narrative. That’s why I believe the timing is perfect.’
