In a casual display of royalty, Prince William, the future King of England, was recently spotted cruising around Windsor Castle on his electric scooter. The 42-year-old prince, clad in a casual ensemble of a blue sweater, black pants, and sunglasses, was captured in a video posted to TikTok by user a.n.g.e.l.a_xue_. The video, aptly captioned “Happy 4th of July from Prince William on a scooter,” showcases William’s laid-back approach to transportation.
William’s electric scooter serves a practical purpose, as it helps him navigate the distance between his residence at Adelaide Cottage, where he resides with his wife, Princess Kate Middleton, and their three children, to Windsor Castle, where he visits his father, King Charles III.
The TikTok video of Prince William on his scooter sparked humorous reactions from users, with one reminding viewers of his royal status and another commenting on his laid-back demeanor. However, William’s choice of transportation goes beyond convenience; it aligns with his environmental advocacy. The prince launched The Earthshot Prize in 2020 to address climate change, emphasizing the importance of optimism and urgency in finding solutions to global environmental challenges.
It’s worth noting that while electric scooters offer a fun and eco-friendly mode of transportation, their use on public roads is prohibited in the UK, restricting their operation to private land with the landowner’s consent.
In addition to his affinity for scooters, William is also a motorbike enthusiast. According to the Daily Mail, he previously owned a £20,000 Ducati bike capable of impressive speeds. However, as a responsible father, William has acknowledged the need to “tone down” his motorbike use, a sentiment echoed by Kate, who expressed her concern about his high-speed rides.
“It always fills me with horror when he goes out on it. I’m terrified,” Kate confessed in 2015, adding that she hoped to keep their son, George, off motorbikes as well.
While William may have dialed back his motorbike adventures, he still cherishes the camaraderie of biking with others. “I miss the big trips,” he admitted during an appearance at the 2018 Isle of Man TT, reflecting on the social aspect of his hobby.
