Boyle recalled having a ‘fantastic’ time filming with the cast in Delaware for a month but was never informed that her performance didn’t make the final cut. She told People magazine, “I wasn’t in the movie. I’m watching Dead Poets Society with my mom, and I kept waiting for my scene… They never told me [I was cut]. That was the last time that Hollywood hurt my feelings.”
The actress played Jeanie, the love interest of Robert Sean Leonard’s character, Neil, in the film. Despite this setback, Boyle has had a successful career, appearing in films like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Twin Peaks, Threesome, and Men in Black II. She will next be seen in the dark comedy Mother, Couch, alongside Taylor Russell and Ewan McGregor.
The film’s writer-director, Niclas Larsson, shared that he has been intrigued by Boyle since his childhood in Sweden, where he read about her in gossip magazines. He wrote the role of a chain-smoking daughter with little patience for her mother’s drama specifically for her. Larsson also expressed his admiration for Boyle and his intention to include her in future projects.
Boyle, however, doesn’t view her recent work as a comeback, stating, “You don’t want an article to read, ‘Boyle’s Second Chance’ or ‘Look Who’s Back.’ I’m right here.”

‘I wasn’t in the movie. I’m watching Dead Poets Society with my mom, and I kept [going], “Here comes my scene, here comes my scene.” No scene, no scene,’ Boyle told People (Williams pictured in 1989)
Having her scene cut was particularly painful as she was previously cut from the comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, starring Matthew Broderick (seen in 2006)
