Lohan’s birthday celebrations coincide with exciting news in her professional life. She is reuniting with Jamie Lee Curtis for the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved 2003 film, Freaky Friday. Disney announced the commencement of production on June 24, sharing a heartwarming photo of Lohan and Curtis, 65, standing together in front of their trailers on set.
The Freaky Friday sequel will pick up “years after” the original body-swap comedy, exploring the dynamic between Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan), who now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. Disney teases that “lightning might indeed strike twice” as the two families merge and Tess and Anna navigate new challenges.
Joining Lohan and Curtis in the star-studded cast are Chad Michael Murray and Mark Harmon, reprising their roles as Lohan’s love interest Jake and Curtis’ boyfriend, Ryan, respectively. The sequel will also feature Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao.
Adding to the excitement, the sequel will introduce new cast members, including Never Have I Ever star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and The Good Place’s Manny Jacinto.
The Freaky Friday sequel was first confirmed by Disney in May 2023, with Curtis sharing that the idea came about due to popular demand during her worldwide tour for Halloween Ends. “When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’”
