Aaron Rodgers has returned from his ‘unauthorized’ trip, which angered New York Jets officials when he skipped the team’s mandatory minicamp.
The 40-year-old quarterback was absent for all three days of the Jets’ minicamp earlier this month, and now faces fines of over $100,000 as his absence was not approved by coach Robert Saleh.
According to reports by Dailymail.com, the New York management was furious and considered ‘tightening his leash’ going forward.
However, it appears that Rodgers is back in the US after attending a mystery event, rumored to be an ayahuasca retreat.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a Buffalo Bills receiver and former teammate of Rodgers in Green Bay, revealed that they recently worked out together in Los Angeles after Rodgers returned from a trip to Egypt.
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has returned from his ‘unauthorized’ trip.
‘Me and Aaron have been close friends since my time in Green Bay,’ Valdes-Scantling told Jason McIntyre on FS1’s ‘The Herd’ this week.
‘I reached out to him and said I was coming to LA, and we decided to run some routes together. We had a great time,’ he added.
McIntyre, a long-time Jets fan, commented: ‘All the New York media can relax. Aaron Rodgers is back from Egypt! The secret’s out!’
Despite the unauthorized absence, Saleh downplayed the situation, insisting that he and Rodgers were on the same page and that there was no issue between them or his teammates.
Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner also defended Rodgers, questioning the backlash over his absence, especially considering his long tenure and Hall of Fame status.
Rodgers missed the Jets’ minicamp to attend an unauthorized event.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling confirmed Rodgers’ return to the US after a recent workout in LA.
Gardner, who has grown close to Rodgers, posted on X: ‘Why is it a big deal that a 15+-year Hall of Fame quarterback missed two days of practice after being with the team throughout Phase 1, 2 & 3 of OTAs? GG’s.’
Rodgers is preparing for his first full season with the Jets after an injury-plagued 2023. He suffered an Achilles tendon tear just four snaps into his debut against the Bills, causing him to miss the entire season.
