Previously, in 2022, Louisa was in a relationship with fellow actor Jonathan Higginbotham, whom she met at the Yale School of Drama. Speaking to Vanity Fair about dating another actor, she shared the benefits of sharing a similar career path.
Louisa’s announcement comes after her parents, Streep and Gummer, revealed their separation in October 2023. The couple, who were married for 45 years, shared that they had been living apart for more than six years and had chosen to lead separate lives.
Streep and Gummer, a sculptor, tied the knot in 1978 and share four children: Henry, Mamie, Grace, and Louisa. The former couple first met through Streep’s brother in 1978 and exchanged vows in a romantic ceremony in the garden of her parents’ house later that year.
During their marriage, they welcomed four children and have five grandchildren. In 2002, Streep shared the secret to their long-lasting marriage, stating, “Goodwill and willingness to bend—and to shut up every once in a while.”
She further reflected on the challenges of raising a family, saying, “There’s no road map on how to raise a family: It’s always an enormous negotiation. But I have a holistic need to work and to have huge ties of love in my life. I can’t imagine eschewing one for the other.”
