Princess Anne was recently hospitalized after an unfortunate incident at her Gatcombe Park residence, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace officials.
“The Princess Royal sustained minor injuries and a concussion in an incident that took place at the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening,” the palace stated on Monday, June 24th. “Her Royal Highness is currently under observation at Southmead Hospital in Bristol as a precautionary measure and is expected to make a swift and full recovery.”
The statement, circulated across various news outlets and social media platforms, also mentioned that King Charles III has been “closely informed” about Princess Anne’s condition. It concluded by stating that the King “joins the rest of the royal family in sending his warmest love and well-wishes to the princess for a swift recovery.”
At 73, Princess Anne has become an integral part of the royal family, especially in recent times. She has diligently taken on additional public duties following the news of both King Charles, 75, and Princess Kate Middleton’s health challenges earlier this year.

Immediately after King Charles announced his cancer diagnosis in February, Princess Anne stepped up to represent her brother at various royal events. She continued to make appearances after Princess Kate, 42, shared her own cancer diagnosis on March 22nd. Princess Anne’s most recent public engagement was on June 15th, when she attended Trooping the Colour in London, an annual celebration honoring the monarch’s birthday.
Sharp-eyed royal enthusiasts noticed Princess Anne riding horseback in the procession. At one point, she faced a challenge in controlling her horse. Trooping the Colour was a significant event as it marked the first time in recent months that all members of the royal family came together for a major public appearance. In the lead-up to the celebration, there was uncertainty about whether Princess Kate would make her first official appearance since March. “I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy knows, there are good days and bad days,” Princess Kate shared in a statement at the time, accompanied by a new photo. “On those challenging days, you feel weak and tired, and you have to give your body the time it needs to rest and recover. But on the better days, when you feel stronger, it’s important to take advantage of that energy and make the most of it.”
In the photo, Princess Kate appeared deep in thought as she posed next to a majestic tree. While she did not provide a specific timeline for her return to public duties, she did mention that her cancer treatment would continue for “a few more months.”
“I am learning to be patient with myself, especially when it comes to uncertainty,” she concluded. “I’m taking each day as it comes, focusing on my healing, and listening to my body. Thank you all for your continued support and for sharing your own stories with me; it has meant a lot.”
