Former Summer House star Ashley Wirkus has weighed in on the highly publicized split between Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke, offering a different perspective on how the breakup unfolded.
In a recent interview, Wirkus shared her thoughts on Radke’s handling of the situation, praising his efforts to make the relationship work. She believes he was genuine in his attempts to have an honest conversation with Hubbard, contrary to claims that he set up the breakup for the show.
Wirkus, who appeared on the first two seasons of Summer House with both Hubbard and Radke, acknowledged that she hasn’t kept in touch with Hubbard but still remains friendly with Radke. She noted that Radke’s sobriety journey has brought about significant changes in his life, and she wishes them both the best.
While Hubbard claimed to be blindsided by the breakup, Wirkus believes the signs were there, and their split was ultimately for the best. She acknowledged that she doesn’t know the full extent of their relationship but based on what was portrayed on TV, it seemed evident that they were not a good match.
“I don’t know their relationship, obviously,” Wirkus said, adding that her friendship with Hubbard ended after she left the show. “I knew Lindsay well before the show. She was at my wedding [but] our friendship kind of ended…I think maybe because we weren’t on the show anymore.”
Wirkus also reflected on Radke’s journey with sobriety, noting that he is a “very different” person when sober. She believes that his personal growth and the work he has put into himself played a role in the breakup, as it became evident that he and Hubbard were not a good match.
“I think [in] seasons 1 and 2, when I was on the show with him, he was struggling with his addiction,” Wirkus shared. “But I always knew deep down Carl is a great person…I think he’s done a lot of work on himself and I think hopefully he’s learned a lot from all this and is in a better place.”
As Radke faces backlash for his handling of the breakup, Wirkus urged viewers to remember that they are only seeing a small glimpse of the situation and encouraged everyone to be more empathetic and understanding.
