When Calls the Heart star Erin Krakow shared an update on her colleague Mamie Laverock’s recovery following a distressing incident that left her with severe injuries.
Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly, Krakow, 39, offered some reassuring news about Laverock’s condition, saying, “She’s on the mend.” The incident, a five-story fall, left Laverock with life-threatening injuries, and the When Calls the Heart family is rallying around her, wishing for her swift recovery.
Krakow, who plays Elizabeth Thornton on the beloved Hallmark Channel series, expressed her admiration for Laverock, calling her “an incredible young woman.” She has been a part of the show for several seasons, portraying Rosaleen Sullivan in seasons 1, 2, and later reprising her role in season 10.
While the cast is respecting Laverock’s family’s privacy and not divulging details of her injuries, Krakow conveyed a sense of sadness for what Laverock has endured, describing the situation as “heartbreaking.”
Laverock’s journey to recovery began on May 11, when she experienced a “medical emergency” and was hospitalized. According to updates from her family on a GoFundMe page, she initially showed signs of improvement.
However, in a tragic turn of events, Laverock fell from a balcony walkway in the hospital’s secure unit two weeks into her recovery. The fall, from five stories high, caused life-threatening injuries, and she underwent multiple extensive surgeries. Laverock’s parents shared that she was “currently on life support,” fighting for her life.
In a hopeful update, Laverock’s mother, Nicole Rockmann, shared with the Los Angeles Times that her daughter had opened her eyes, a sign that many hoped would be the start of her turnaround and recovery.
Rockmann confirmed that Laverock had been moved to a different hospital and expressed their intention to take legal action against St. Paul’s Hospital, where the fall occurred. She emphasized that the incident was not “intended” and that their focus was on Laverock’s recovery and holding the responsible parties accountable.
Providence Health Care, the operator of St. Paul’s Hospital, responded by stating that they conduct “an internal critical incident review” for cases related to patient safety. They also offered their well-wishes to Laverock and her family, expressing their hope for a full recovery.
Fans were recently heartened by a photo shared by Laverock’s family, showing the actress holding a teddy bear while in the hospital, a sign that many interpreted as a positive update.
Laverock’s WCTH costars have been a source of support and solidarity throughout this challenging time. Krakow described the cast’s bond, saying, “We’re really there for each other in our lowest moments, and we’re also there to help celebrate each other when we have successes. It’s a great relationship.”
Recalling her scenes with Laverock, Krakow described them as “the best.” She also shared the unique experience of witnessing Laverock grow up on the show, returning as an adult in season 10 after taking a break from acting.
Although Laverock is not part of season 11 of WCTH, which has two episodes remaining, Krakow emphasized that they all consider each other family.
Krakow shared how their on-screen community translates into real-life friendships, saying, “[Our friendships] very much mirror the sense of community on screen. We’re spending holidays together. Pascale [Hutton] hosts Canadian Thanksgiving, we take trips together… It’s really become a family, and I’ve made some of my dearest friends on that show.”
