Mocking Man United’s Boss: Why Stick With Erik ten Hag?

Manchester United’s decision to retain Erik ten Hag as their manager has been met with ridicule and criticism by Simon Jordan and Richard Keys. Jordan sarcastically remarked that the choice must have “struck terror into the hearts of all the major Premier League teams.” He further mocked the situation by stating that it’s “clearly evident” that Manchester United are heading in the right direction, followed by a lying face emoji. Keys, on the other hand, labeled the decision a “shambles,” arguing that Ten Hag only received a vote of confidence due to a lack of available managerial options. The club’s FA Cup triumph and considerations for an uneven campaign, such as injuries and new signings, are believed to have played a part in the decision to keep Ten Hag. However, the mockery and criticism from Jordan and Keys highlight the skepticism surrounding the choice to stick with the current manager.

Manchester United’s choice to stand by Erik ten Hag following an end-of-season review has been brutally mocked by Simon Jordan. The Red Devils confirmed on Tuesday night that Ten Hag would remain as their head coach, abandoning their search for a new manager. The Premier League giants, who are now in discussions about a new contract with the Dutchman, had initially compiled a list of potential candidates to replace Ten Hag after a disappointing season.

Manchester United concluded the season with a club-record low finish of eighth in the Premier League, but they still managed to qualify for the Europa League by winning the FA Cup at Wembley. The club’s unexpected triumph in the final against Manchester City is believed to have strengthened Ten Hag’s case, according to sources disclosed to Mail Sport on Tuesday.

He added, “I’m pretty sure it didn’t need a supposed review to stick with what you started with.” On Wednesday morning, former Sky Sports host Richard Keys joined in the criticism, labeling the decision a “shambles.” Keys argued that Ten Hag only received a vote of confidence because of a lack of managerial options in the market at the moment.

Initially, Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank, and Thomas Tuchel were viewed as potential successors by INEOS if Ten Hag were to be dismissed. However, Tuchel distanced himself from the role following talks with Ratcliffe in Monaco last week. “It’s hardly a vote of confidence, is it? “You can stay because no one wants to work for us,” Keys posted. “I told you nothing would change under Sunny Jim. What a shambles.”

After considering all options, Manchester United concluded that Ten Hag, 54, was the best person for the job. Mail Sport understands that United officials want to observe how Ten Hag performs under a new structure designed to give him the best chance of success. Additionally, factors such as an extensive injury list and challenges with integrating new signings into the team are thought to have contributed to INEOS’ decision.

Furthermore, Omar Berrada is set to join the club as chief executive on July 13, and Jason Wilcox has already been appointed as technical director. Discussions are also ongoing to bring Dan Ashworth to Old Trafford from Newcastle as sporting director. The talks with Ten Hag are believed to have been positive, with both parties aligned and negotiations underway for a contract extension.

Meanwhile, two of Manchester United’s top six rivals, Chelsea and Liverpool, are starting anew with new managers. Enzo Maresca and Arne Slot will join these Premier League giants, respectively. Additionally, Pep Guardiola, who led Manchester City to an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title, hinted that next season could be his last at the Etihad. Mikel Arteta at Arsenal and Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham are also seen as long-term managers by their respective north London clubs.
