Paul Scholes Unleashes His View on Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United Survival

Paul Scholes has voiced his support for Manchester United’s decision to retain Erik ten Hag, but urged club executives to bolster the squad with “significant upgrades.” Despite overseeing a disappointing season, Ten Hag’s future was secured by the club’s FA Cup triumph, which secured Europa League qualification.

Scholes, writing on social media, expressed his relief at the decision but emphasized that fans “deserve better next season.” Mail Sport’s Mike Keegan reported that Ten Hag’s position was strengthened by the FA Cup victory over rivals City, with the club’s new INEOS part-owners considering replacements.

Thomas Tuchel, among others, was approached, but the review concluded that Ten Hag should remain. Notably, he has won two trophies in his first two seasons and reached consecutive FA Cup finals. Scholes praised Ten Hag for his development of young players despite a challenging season, and discussions between the club and the manager have been positive, with contract extension talks underway.

Scholes wrote on social media, “It’s nice to wake up to this news, although the Palace away game felt like the end.” “While significant improvements are needed, we will have some continuity and won’t have to wait for a new regime to settle in. The fans have given him and the players incredible support, and they deserve better next season.”

Ten Hag has not had the opportunity to work under the new system at the club, with INEOS and Ratcliffe taking over football operations. Additionally, new CEO Omar Berrada will join in July, further reshaping the backroom staff.
