Gareth Southgate to Step Down as England Boss if Euro Glory Eludes Him, as Man United Circle with Management Woes

|

Gareth Southgate has hinted at the possibility of ‘stepping down’ as England manager if the team falls short of winning the Euro 2024 tournament.

“If we don’t win, I probably won’t be here anymore,” Southgate stated in an interview with German publication BILD. He further added, “So maybe it is the last chance. I think around half of the national coaches leave after a tournament – that’s the nature of international football.”

Southgate, who has been at the helm for almost eight years, acknowledged the need to deliver in crucial moments. “I’ve come close [to winning]. But you can’t keep asking for more time to deliver, as at some point, people will lose faith,” he said. “If we want to be a great team and I want to be a top coach, we must deliver in big moments.”
