England’s football stars have revealed the special requests they’ve made to feel right at home at their luxurious Euros base in Germany this summer. Gareth Southgate and his team are set to touch down in the coming hours and will be staying at the Weimarer Land Spa and Golf Resort in Blankenhain, a quaint town with a population of under 7,000. The resort, which boasts two Michelin-star restaurants and a sprawling 2,500-square-metre spa, cost England an estimated £850,000.
The owner, Matthias Grafe, shared some insights into the players’ requests, which included ensuring functional air conditioning in the rooms—a priority after their experience in Qatar. They also requested English television access and privacy from the press, with windows blacked out to prevent unwanted photography. The resort will cater to the players’ culinary needs with 35 chefs on hand and a menu featuring items like hamburgers. Family photos and personal items will also adorn the walls of their rooms.
England’s players will have plenty of downtime activities to choose from, including three golf courses, a padel court, and a German-speaking robot named Robbie to serve them. The training facilities are top-notch, with the grass approved by Wembley groundstaff. WAGs will be kept at a secure distance, a lesson learned from England’s stay in Germany during the 2006 World Cup. Southgate has assured significant others that they will see the players but will assess the when and how once the tournament begins.
England is leaving no stone unturned in their quest for Euros glory, and with everything in place, they hope to go one step further than their last outing, where they lost to Italy in the final. The team appears to have all the comforts of home and more as they prepare to take on Serbia in their opening match on Sunday.
