Rapper Fatman Scoop, known for his energetic stage presence and collaborations with top artists, has tragically passed away at the age of 53 after suffering a medical emergency on stage.
The artist, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, collapsed on stage at Hamden Town Center Park in Connecticut on Friday and was rushed to hospital. Despite efforts to revive him, he sadly passed away.
The incident occurred just moments after Fatman Scoop had roused the crowd, shouting “Let’s make some noise!” before climbing onto a platform and disappearing from view. Medics rushed to the scene and attempted to revive him, but unfortunately, he could not be saved.

Fatman Scoop’s manager, DJ and producer Birch Michael, announced the rapper’s passing on Saturday morning, saying he was “lost for words.” The artist’s family also released a statement, describing him as “not just a world-class performer – he was a father, brother, uncle, and a friend.”
Born in New York City in 1971, Fatman Scoop made a name for himself through collaborations with mega-stars including Missy Elliott and Mariah Carey in the early 2000s. He was known for his deep, roaring vocal presence and was hailed as “the undisputed voice of the club.”
In recent years, Fatman Scoop ventured into podcasting and reality TV, including appearing on Channel 5’s Celebrity Big Brother: UK vs USA in 2015. He was a three-time Grammy Award winner and was set to perform at the Reminisce Festival on September 7.
Tributes have poured in for the artist, with Missy Elliott sharing a touching tribute, saying “Fatman Scoop VOICE & energy have contributed to MANY songs that made the people feel HAPPY & want to dance for over 2 decades. Your IMPACT will NEVER be forgotten.”
Other artists, including Lil’ Jon and Timbaland, have also paid tribute to Fatman Scoop, recalling their time together as rising hip-hop artists.
