The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office has revealed the cause of death of Lucy-Bleu Knight, the 25-year-old stepdaughter of legendary guitarist Slash. According to the examiner’s report, Lucy-Bleu died from hydrogen sulfide toxicity, and the manner of death has been ruled as suicide.
Authorities found Lucy-Bleu unresponsive in a private residence on July 19 after conducting a welfare check. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner’s office performed an autopsy on July 22, and the cause of death was confirmed on Thursday.
Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic gas that can cause rapid unconsciousness and death in high concentrations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that symptoms of acute exposure to the gas include nausea, headaches, delirium, and skin and eye irritation.
Slash, whose real name is Saul Hudson, announced his stepdaughter’s passing on Instagram on July 22, sharing a heartfelt tribute to Lucy-Bleu. “My heart is permanently fractured,” he wrote. “I will never ever stop missing you & remembering what a beacon of happiness, laughter, creativity & beauty you have always been & still are.”
The legendary musician canceled four tour dates of his solo S.E.R.P.E.N.T Tour to grieve the loss of his stepdaughter. In a statement, Slash’s team said that Lucy-Bleu was “an incredibly talented artist, a passionate dreamer, and a charming, lovable, sweet soul.”
The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time and has requested that speculation about Lucy-Bleu’s death be kept to a minimum on social media.
Celebrity friends, including Dave Grohl’s daughter Violet, Lenny Kravitz, Tom Morello, and Flea, have offered their condolences to Slash and his family.
