The fate of the Dutton family drama remains uncertain, as rumors of Yellowstone’s conclusion with season five have been put to rest. Negotiations are underway for a sixth season.
Although the deal is still up in the air, the focus of the upcoming episodes would shift to Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, who play Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, following Kevin Costner’s dramatic exit from the neo-Western drama.
This development comes on the heels of reports that Reilly and Hauser were in talks to join the Yellowstone spinoff, The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer.
In a previous interview, Reilly expressed her commitment to finishing Yellowstone with the same passion and care that has driven the show thus far. When asked about the possibility of a sixth season, she downplayed the rumors, saying, “I just care about finishing [Yellowstone] with as much care and as much passion and as much love as I can muster to put into it.”
Despite previously announcing the end of Taylor Sheridan’s hit show, Yellowstone, Deadline confirmed that ‘negotiations are underway for a sixth season’
Season 5B, which premieres on November 10, was initially announced as Yellowstone’s final installment. However, the latest developments have thrown that into question.
In June, Costner confirmed that he would not be returning for season 5B, citing the demands of his multi-part Western epic, Horizon: An American Saga.
Costner’s announcement seemed to put an end to his involvement with the show, but fans held out hope that he might return for a dignified conclusion to his character, John Dutton III.
The actor and director expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work on Yellowstone, saying, “I loved it, and I know you loved it.”
Although sources emphasized that the deal is still up in the air, the upcoming episodes would focus on Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, who play Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, following Kevin Costner ‘s dramatic exit from the neo-Western drama
The actor’s departure from the show was reportedly due to conflicts with producers over pay, his schedule, and his availability to film Horizon.
Costner’s character, John Dutton III, was the patriarch of the Dutton family, who owned the largest ranch in Montana, bordering Yellowstone National Park and the Broken Rock Indian Reservation.
The show has been praised for its unique blend of drama and politics, although it has also faced criticism for its portrayal of the wealthy and powerful Dutton family.
In June, Costner confirmed that he was done with Yellowstone for good
His character, John Dutton III, ran the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, the largest in Montana. It bordered Yellowstone National Park and the Broken Rock Indian Reservation, which often put the wealthy family at odds with Native American neighbors and greedy developers
Costner’s departure from the show has sparked controversy, with some fans and critics pointing fingers at showrunner and co-creator Taylor Sheridan, who has been accused of spreading himself too thin with multiple projects.
Sheridan has disputed these claims, saying that he is committed to delivering high-quality content to his audiences.
The future of Yellowstone remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the Dutton family drama is far from over.
