Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys’ general manager since 1989, is not shy about touting his own abilities. In a recent interview, Jones confidently declared that he’s the best person for the job, despite facing criticism for his personnel decisions.

When asked about his confidence in his abilities, Jones didn’t mince words. “I’ve done it all,” he said. “I have an extraordinary amount of confidence that, if anybody can figure out how to get this done, I can figure it out.”

Jones has faced criticism for his decisions, including keeping head coach Mike McCarthy despite the team’s lack of success in the playoffs. He’s also been criticized for his handling of wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s contract holdout, which ended with a four-year, $136 million contract extension.

Despite the criticism, Jones remains defiant, insisting that nobody could do a better job than he’s currently doing. “I’ve been there every which way from Sunday, and have I busted my backside a bunch, a bunch,” he said. “And there’s nobody living that’s out cutting and shooting that can’t give you a bunch of times they busted their backside.”

Jones’ confidence in his abilities is rooted in his experience and success with the Cowboys. He purchased the team in 1989 for $140 million and returned it to its glory days of the 1970s, winning three Super Bowls in the 1990s with Hall-of-Fame coach Jimmy Johnson.

However, Jones’ relationship with Johnson eventually soured, and the two parted ways in 1994. Johnson has since suggested that Jones was more concerned with taking credit for the team’s success than with actually making football decisions.

Despite the criticism, Jones remains committed to his role as general manager, and the Cowboys will now focus on tying down quarterback Dak Prescott to an extension. Star pass rusher Micah Parsons is also eyeing a new deal.
