Gunvalson, 62, was hospitalized with a severe infection that left her with a “10 to 20 percent [chance of] survival.” Dodd, 48, took to Instagram to wish her a speedy recovery, saying, “I knew @vickigunvalson almost died because [her boyfriend] Mike Smith called me and said she almost died. Sorry @michaelsmith0522 and told me not to say anything!!” She accompanied the post with a photo of the two of them together.

Gunvalson shared more details about her health scare on her podcast “My Friend, My Soulmate, My Podcast” with her boyfriend Michael Smith. She explained that she suffered from amnesia and didn’t remember a few hours of her life. She initially went to the hair salon but was later taken to the hospital by her client, a retired ER physician, who suspected she might be having a stroke.
Gunvalson was initially misdiagnosed with a sinus infection, but later discovered she had a massive infection, including sepsis and pneumonia. Her boyfriend Smith explained that her body was fighting the infection, which affected her brain and overall health.
Fortunately, Gunvalson is now on the mend, and Smith assured fans that she is “doing better” thanks to her friends and loved ones.
