Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing to release their club-record signing, Tanguy Ndombele, following a disappointing stint with the North London club.
Ndombele joined Spurs in 2019 as one of Mauricio Pochettino’s top targets, signing for a record fee of £65 million. However, the French midfielder has failed to meet expectations during his time at the club.
The 27-year-old hasn’t played for Tottenham since January 2022 and has instead spent the last two seasons on loan at Napoli and Galatasaray, respectively. During his time with the club, Ndombele has made just 91 appearances and scored 10 goals, falling out of favor with multiple managers.
According to reports, the club is now ready to part ways with the midfielder, despite having a year left on his contract. This decision comes as Spurs announce the departure of several other players, including Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, and Japhet Tanganga.
Ironically, Ndombele found success during his time away from Tottenham, enjoying back-to-back title wins with Napoli and Galatasaray. However, he failed to make a lasting impression at Spurs, despite the hefty fee paid for his services.
With Ndombele’s imminent departure, Spurs will be looking to recoup some of their investment and focus on shaping their squad for the upcoming season.
Tottenham’s club-record signing, Tanguy Ndombele, is set for release.
Ndombele spent the last season on loan at Galatasaray, winning the league title.
The midfielder was Tottenham’s record signing when he joined from Lyon in 2019.
Ndombele’s last appearance for Spurs ended on a sour note when he stormed off the field after being substituted during an FA Cup win over Morecambe under Antonio Conte’s reign.
Despite his struggles at Tottenham, Ndombele found success during his loan spells, winning consecutive league titles with Napoli and Galatasaray. However, he failed to replicate that impact at Spurs, despite the substantial fee paid for his services.
Since signing Ndombele, Tottenham have come close to matching that fee with the £60 million spent on Richarlison in 2022.
The last sight of Ndombele in a Spurs shirt was when he stormed off after being substituted against Morecambe in January 2022.
Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, and Ivan Perisic are among those leaving Tottenham this summer.
Ndombele joins a list of players departing Tottenham this summer, including Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, and Japhet Tanganga. Perisic and Dier are expected to join Hadjuk Split and Bayern Munich, respectively, while Millwall are interested in signing Tanganga after a loan spell last season.
