Famed Director Quentin Tarantino Weighs in on “Rust” Shooting Tragedy
Alec Baldwin Bears Partial Responsibility, He Asserts
Club Random With Bill Maher
Renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino is sparking controversy with his views on the tragic shooting on the set of “Rust,” where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins lost her life. In a recent podcast episode, Tarantino shared his thoughts with Bill Maher, pointing out that while Alec Baldwin isn’t entirely to blame, he does bear some responsibility.
Tarantino sat down with Maher on his “Club Random” podcast, where they delved into the “Rust” shooting incident. Maher questioned the prosecution’s decision to charge Baldwin, which Tarantino didn’t entirely agree with.
Tarantino believes that 90% of the blame lies with the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, but the remaining 10% falls on Baldwin. The director emphasized the importance of actors checking their weapons before using them in scenes, a stance that contrasts with the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), which has stated that this responsibility doesn’t fall on actors.

As previously reported, the manslaughter charge against Baldwin was dismissed in July due to prosecutorial errors. Baldwin has since filed a lawsuit against Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey and Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza.

Incidentally, Tarantino and Maher also shared their thoughts on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s safe to say they’re not fans.
We’ve reached out to Baldwin’s attorney for a response to Tarantino’s comments, but so far, we haven’t received a reply.
