The source described Affleck’s behavior as “erratic” and “unpredictable,” adding that he would oscillate between being “incredibly happy and warm” and exposing his “deepest, darkest behavior.”

Despite their efforts to work through their issues, the couple’s relationship ultimately became “toxic” due to Affleck’s mood swings.

“They were trying to work through it, but when the mood swings and the big highs and big lows informed a toxicity that was pervasive, no one can help you,” the insider explained.

Although the couple still has feelings for each other, their decision to divorce was inevitable.

“The world was rooting for them, but who he said he was and who he turned out to be were two different people,” the source admitted.

Ben and Jen first started dating in 2002 after meeting on the set of Gigli (2003) and quickly got engaged.

However, they split up in 2004, just before they were set to become husband and wife.

They both went on to wed other people – she exchanged vows with Marc Anthony in 2004, while he walked down the aisle with Jennifer Garner in 2005 – but after splitting from their respective partners, they eventually found their way back to each other.

They rekindled their romance in 2021 and finally said “I do” in Las Vegas in July 2022.

According to the divorce filings, the pair listed their date of separation as April 26, 2024.

Their split comes as no surprise to fans as the pair had sparked split rumors months prior.

Their assets are currently up in the air as Ben and Jen did not sign a prenuptial agreement before tying the knot.
