Noni Madueke silenced the jeers from Wolves fans as he scored a hat-trick to help Chelsea secure their first league win of the season in a thrilling encounter at Molineux.
The 21-year-old’s goals, all assisted by Cole Palmer, came in the second half, with Madueke’s treble sandwiched between strikes from Nicolas Jackson and Joao Felix, who marked his second Chelsea debut with a goal.
Palmer was instrumental in all six of Chelsea’s goals, as Enzo Maresca collected his first points as the Blues’ boss, leaving Wolves to nurse their second consecutive defeat.
Madueke had been subjected to loud boos from the home end throughout the match, following his social media post that described the town of Wolverhampton as, ahem, “unflattering.”

The match was a frenetic affair that saw Jackson at the centre of scuffles between both sets of players on two occasions.
Madueke, seemingly fired up by the hostile reception, made his mark on the game just 60 seconds in, forcing a save from Jose Sa with a mazy run and dribble.
When Palmer’s corner was inadvertently flicked on by Cunha, it fell for an unmarked Jackson, who guided home a header from close range to open the scoring.
Jackson’s celebrations in front of the Wolves faithful created a brief melee between the players, calmed down by referee Darren England without a card being shown.
The pace of the action scarcely dropped from there on. Wolves almost levelled when Yerson Mosquera missed a free header, the defender then racing back to stop Jackson making it 2-0 after he’d played a delicious one-two with Marc Cucurella.
Molineux was roused and it spread to O’Neil’s players.
After Sa had saved from Madueke again, Cunha was denied by an offside flag before finding an equaliser that did count.

Rayan Ait-Nouri left Enzo Fernandez in his wake as he sped towards the Chelsea box. The final ball to Cunha was perfect and the Brazilian fired home to add to the hat-trick he notched at Stamford Bridge in February.
As he ran back to the centre circle, Cunha gave a ‘stop talking’ gesture to Jackson who responded with a shove. Again, opposing players squared up to each other by proxy.
Wolves did the double over Chelsea last season and the Londoners looked vulnerable without the injured Romeo Lavia and Maresca’s ‘bomb squad’ outcasts headed by Raheem Sterling.
Cunha hit the crossbar before Chelsea regained the lead on 45 minutes in brilliant fashion through Palmer.
A clearance by goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was flicked into Palmer’s path by Jackson and the England international showed great vision to spot Sa off his line and produce an inch-perfect lob from the edge of the box.
Only Chelsea could still find time to concede before half-time.
In the sixth minute of injury-time, Ait-Nouri’s free-kick created disarray in the Chelsea ranks. Toti headed back across the box and Strand Larsen stretched to convert for his first goal in old gold.
Their £89million winger Mykhailo Mudryk didn’t reappear after half-time – replaced by former Wolves favourite Pedro Neto – and the visitors looked better for it with three goals for Madueke, all from Palmer assists.
After 49 minutes, Caicedo’s quick free-kick to Jackson was relayed to Palmer and then Madueke. Cutting in from the right, his shot deflected off Ait-Nouri and spun past a helpless Sa into the corner.
The England under-21 international vaulted the hoardings in delirium to celebrate with Chelsea fans as team-mates raced onto the scene to join him.
Chelsea goals four and five were almost carbon copies. Palmer got his head up and slipped passes to Madueke on the right angle of the penalty area. On both occasions, he fired low unerringly into the bottom corner.
For his hat-trick goal after 63 minutes, Fernandez deserved credit for doing the initial ball-winning, a confidence boost for the Argentine skipper who at times found it hard to match Wolves’ physicality.
Madueke celebrated his treble by holding up three fingers and pointing to Palmer in gratitude.
There was still time for more good news in the Chelsea ranks.
Felix, a £45million signing whose arrival signals the end of Sterling’s time at Stamford Bridge, came off the bench to score. Palmer released Neto and he slipped a pass into Felix to convert.
