Jennifer Lopez has taken the bold step of filing for divorce from her estranged husband, Ben Affleck, just two years after their lavish wedding ceremony.
In a surprising move, the 55-year-old singer and actress filed for divorce without an attorney on Tuesday, August 20, which coincidentally marked their second wedding anniversary.
According to court documents, Lopez has requested to revert to her maiden name, dropping the Affleck surname altogether.
The couple’s separation date is listed as April 26, 2024, and insiders have revealed that they did not sign a prenuptial agreement before tying the knot in July 2022.

The lack of a prenup means that their individual earnings from the past two years, including film projects and brand deals, will be considered community property.
Lopez, who has a reported net worth of $400 million, has released four films since marrying Affleck, including her self-funded project “This Is Me… Now: A Love Story,” which documents their rekindled romance.
She also launched her Delola cocktail line in 2023 and was set to embark on a world tour in support of her latest album, but it was canceled weeks before kickoff so she could “focus” on family.

Meanwhile, Affleck, who has a reported net worth of $150 million, has recently starred in films such as “Air” (2023) and “Hypnotic” (2023), and has wrapped production on a sequel to 2016’s “The Accountant.”
The couple also worked together on the upcoming film “Unstoppable,” which further complicates their divorce proceedings.
Lopez is not seeking spousal support and has asked the judge to deny it for Affleck as well.

According to sources, the couple’s differing approaches to parenting also contributed to their split. Lopez wanted to spend more time with the kids, while Affleck preferred a more low-key approach.
Lopez shares twins Max and Emme, 16, with ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Affleck shares three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner: Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12.

The divorce filing comes as a shock to fans, who had high hopes for the couple’s rekindled romance. Lopez is reportedly feeling “disappointed and sad” but knows it’s “time to move on.”
The singer/actress wrote a whole album inspired by the pair’s reignited love affair and even made a film version.
