Brentford has secured the signing of Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool in a deal worth up to £25 million.

The 22-year-old centre back has put pen to paper on a five-year deal, following a successful medical on Thursday. Van den Berg joined Liverpool in 2019 from Eredivisie club PEC Zwolle, making four senior appearances for the Anfield outfit.
**Impressive Loan Spell at Mainz**
However, it was his outstanding campaign at Mainz in the Bundesliga that caught the attention of Brentford and other top-flight clubs. The Dutch defender’s impressive performances during his loan spell at Mainz propelled him into the thoughts of several clubs, including Leverkusen, Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim, and PSV Eindhoven.

Van den Berg becomes the second player to join Brentford from Liverpool this summer, following the signing of 21-year-old attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho. The Bees enjoy a good relationship with Liverpool, which facilitated the transfer.
