Angry Birds 3: Flapping into Cinemas Soon with Sudeikis and Gad Back in the Nest

Fans of the feathered friends from Angry Birds have something new to look forward to! A third installment of the popular Angry Birds Movie franchise was just announced, continuing the adventures of everyone’s favorite flightless fowl.

Rovio, Sega, and Prime Focus Studios are teaming up once more, this time with DNEG Animation, to bring these beloved characters back to the big screen. The announcement has fans excited, especially with the news that Jason Sudeikis and Josh Gad will be reprising their roles as the beloved bird buddies, Red and Chuck.

The new film will be directed by John Rice, with a script penned by Thurop Van Orman, the director of the second Angry Birds Movie. While specific plot details are still under wraps, we do know that the movie will continue to follow the dynamic duo of Red and Chuck on their hilarious and action-packed adventures.

Jason Sudeikis and Josh Gad are set to reprise their roles as Red and Chuck, the beloved bird buddies.

Shuji Utsumi, President and COO at Sega, expressed his excitement in the press release, stating, “We are thrilled to announce that a brand-new film in the globally beloved and successful Angry Birds franchise is taking flight. We believe that The Angry Birds Movie 3 will perfectly showcase the charm and appeal of these characters to fans around the world.”

The first two Angry Birds movies were a global success, with a combined box office revenue of over half a billion dollars. With a star-studded voice cast that included names like Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, and Peter Dinklage, the franchise has become a household name.

The original Angry Birds Movie, released in 2016, built upon the massive popularity of Rovio’s mobile gaming franchise. While we don’t yet have a release date for The Angry Birds Movie 3, the announcement has already generated a lot of buzz, especially with Ryan Gosling’s recent comments about how the success of the first Angry Birds Movie impacted the chances of a sequel for his film, The Nice Guys.

Gosling revealed to ComicBook.com that the underperformance of The Nice Guys, which opened against Angry Birds in 2016, ultimately determined its fate. “So much of a sequel is decided by the opening weekend,” Gosling explained, “and we opened up against Angry Birds. So Angry Birds just… destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel.”

While no release date has been announced, fans are already buzzing with excitement for the third installment.

The Nice Guys, starring Gosling and Russell Crowe, had a disappointing opening weekend, securing fourth place with just over $11 million in ticket sales. Despite setting up a potential sequel, the film’s fate was sealed by its box office performance, while Angry Birds went on to dominate and earn a sequel.
