Gridiron Guru’s Verdict: Will Star QB Be Fit to Face 49ers in Opener?

Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets’ quarterback, is reportedly “absolutely ready to go” for the team’s season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, according to head coach Robert Saleh.

Saleh expressed his confidence in Rodgers’ abilities, stating that the 40-year-old quarterback still has the arm strength of someone 10 years his junior. Rodgers has not played since tearing his Achilles tendon four snaps into his Jets debut against the Buffalo Bills last September.

Despite not playing in the preseason, Saleh believes Rodgers is prepared for the upcoming season. “I think he’s absolutely ready to go,” Saleh said. The coach also praised Rodgers’ arm, saying it “is still 30 and he’s got plenty of mobility.”

Rodgers, who recently signed a two-year, $75 million guaranteed contract, has been working hard to recover from his injury. The Jets had a joint practice with the Giants on Wednesday, with Rodgers taking center stage ahead of their final preseason game against their New York rivals.

Saleh revealed that he has made a decision on whether Rodgers and other starters will play on Saturday night, but refused to disclose his choice, saying he has yet to inform the players.

Rodgers has faced a turbulent few weeks off the field, including a controversial new biography that shed light on his bitter family feud. The quarterback has downplayed the book, saying it contains some true stories, but also some that are exaggerated or not based on fact.

The book was written by long-time New York sportswriter Ian O’Connor. Rodgers has expressed his disappointment with the book, saying it contains some stories that are true, but also some that are exaggerated or not based on fact.
