Beloved TV Star's Spouse Speaks Out on Devastating Health Battle

Danielle Fishel’s husband, Jensen Karp, has praised his wife for her bravery in sharing her breast cancer diagnosis with the world. The 43-year-old actress recently revealed that she has been diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ, an early form of the disease.

Karp, 44, took to Instagram to express his admiration for Fishel, saying: “I’m so proud of @daniellefishel for using her platform to raise awareness. We can’t miss appointments and we need to get checked! She’s the strongest person I’ve ever met. She’s got this.”

Fishel, who is best known for her role as Topanga Lawrence on the popular 90s sitcom Boy Meets World, made the announcement on her podcast, Pod Meets World. She explained that her diagnosis was caught early, and that she would be undergoing surgery and follow-up treatment.

The actress emphasized the importance of regular check-ups and encouraged her fans to prioritize their health. She said: “The only reason I caught this cancer when it is still stage zero is because the day I got my text message that my yearly mammogram had come up, I made the appointment. They found it so, so, so early that I’m going to be fine.”

Fishel has been hosting Pod Meets World with her former Boy Meets World co-stars, Will Friedle and Rider Strong, since 2022. The show has become a popular platform for the trio to discuss their lives, careers, and personal struggles.

In addition to her podcast, Fishel is also a wife and mother of two sons, Adler Lawrence Karp, five, and Keaton Joseph Karp, two.

DCIS: THE MEDICAL FACTS

Ductal carcinoma in situ is the most common form of non-invasive breast cancer.

Ductal means the disease originates inside the milk ducts, while carcinoma refers to any cancer that begins in the skin or other tissues.

Meanwhile, in situ indicates the cancer has not spread, and instead remains in its original place.

DCIS, as it is more commonly known, is not considered a life-threatening form of the disease, but being diagnosed with the condition can increase a woman’s chances of later developing more serious forms of the disease.

DCIS generally has no signs or symptoms, though some women may notice a lump in the breast or discharge from their nipple.

The National Cancer Institute says 80 per cent of DCIS cases are found by mammography.

Typical treatment for DCIS is a lumpectomy followed by radiation therapy, though in some cases women will be advised to undergo a mastectomy.

Chemotherapy is generally not needed, because DCIS is a form of cancer that has not spread, so there is no need to target cells that may have traveled to other parts of the body.
