Renowned Actor’s Tragic Demise
Doctor Reopens Practice Amidst Controversy
Federal Authorities Impose Strict Conditions
One of the medical professionals charged in connection with the untimely death of a beloved actor is set to resume his practice, albeit with significant federal stipulations.
Dr. Salvador Plasencia, the physician at the center of the controversy, will reopen his urgent care facility, Malibu Canyon Urgent Care, as early as Tuesday, following his recent arrest. According to his attorney, Stefan Sacks, Dr. Plasencia will proceed with the reopening despite the ongoing criminal case.
However, there are notable conditions attached to Dr. Plasencia’s reopening. He must inform all patients about his ongoing criminal case and the revocation of his DEA registration, which prohibited him from prescribing controlled substances, including ketamine. This is particularly significant, as ketamine was the drug involved in the actor’s tragic accident.
Moreover, Dr. Plasencia is only permitted to distribute non-controlled medications, such as antibiotics. Patients must also provide written consent to continue receiving treatment from him.
Dr. Plasencia’s attorney, Stefan Sacks, emphasized that the doctor had stopped treating the actor several weeks prior to his passing. Sacks views the case against Dr. Plasencia as an instance of federal overreach.
Dr. Plasencia is one of the two physicians charged with illegally conspiring to supply ketamine to the late actor. He has pleaded not guilty, whereas the other doctor, Mark Chavez, has entered a plea deal.
Dr. Plasencia was released on bond following allegations that he supplied the actor’s assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, with ketamine and instructed him on its administration. Additionally, Dr. Plasencia is accused of administering the drug to the actor himself.
Regarding Dr. Plasencia’s alleged text message, in which he reportedly stated, “I wonder how much this moron will pay,” Sacks characterized the comment as insensitive or a bad joke. However, he noted that the full context of the conversation between Dr. Plasencia and Dr. Chavez was unclear, making it difficult to judge the situation fairly.
