Brazilian Authorities Clear Manchester United’s Antony of Domestic Violence Allegations
Manchester United winger Antony has been cleared of domestic violence allegations made by his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, according to reports from Brazilian authorities.
The 24-year-old footballer was accused of offending, assaulting, and threatening Cavallin, leading to a lengthy investigation by the Sao Paulo police department. However, after over a year, the authorities have found insufficient evidence to support the claims and have concluded their investigation.
Cavallin, a DJ, made her allegations public in May 2023, claiming that she suffered abuse at the hands of Antony, including being thrown water on, kicked, and having her hair pulled. She also alleged that Antony made her a prisoner in their home and wouldn’t let her leave.
Cavallin’s claims sparked a heated debate, with many calling for Antony to be held accountable for his actions. However, the footballer denied any wrongdoing, stating that he was innocent and would cooperate fully with the investigation.
In a statement, Antony wrote: “For you, after submitting my statement at the police station where the investigation involving my name is being conducted, I wanted to speak publicly for the first time since I was falsely accused of assault.”
The investigation by Greater Manchester Police in the UK is still ongoing, after Cavallin claimed that Antony attacked her on four different occasions, including once in June 2022 while she was pregnant.
Antony’s clearance by Brazilian authorities brings an end to one chapter of the saga, but the ongoing investigation in the UK means that the matter is far from over.
