Pro Athlete Lashes Out at NFL Over ‘Censorship’ of Viral Tryout Clip

Free-agent punter Drue Chrisman recently encountered media rights issues following a tryout with the Washington Commanders.

Chrisman attempted to document his workout in Landover, Maryland, by recording the process with his phone and posting the footage on social media.

However, it appears that’s not allowed. The minute-long clip garnered 1.3 million views, but the Commanders allegedly expressed disapproval.

In a post with the caption, ‘No Fun League,’ Chrisman shared a text message he received, presumably from his agent.

The message stated, ‘Drue, Just got a call [from the] Commanders legal dept. [Please] take down all social media posts that show anything Commanders. [Thank you].’

As of Monday afternoon, the video remained up on X and Instagram, although that could change at some point. TikTok, for instance, has removed the footage.

Commanders spokespeople declined to comment when contacted.

Washington currently has Tress Way listed as the team’s kicker and punter, although the Commanders would likely add a natural punter to the 53-man roster.

Previously, Chrisman recorded a similar video after a tryout with the San Francisco 49ers.

Responding to a fan on Instagram, Chrisman said, ‘What a joke they think I’d take this down.’

The video doesn’t show anything too revealing. Chrisman wakes up in a hotel, has breakfast, heads to the tryout, goes through some measurements, and, of course, attempts a few punts.

Chrisman also owns a moving company and could be seen throughout the clip hiding business cards in and around the Landover area.

The video ends with him returning home to get a hug from his daughter.

A product of La Salle High School in Cincinnati, Chrisman attended Ohio State and ultimately played two seasons with the Bengals. He remained a free agent in 2023 and recently played for the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL.
