Las Vegas Police Union at Odds with NFL over New Credentialing Policy

A major police union in Las Vegas is locked in a dispute with the National Football League (NFL) over a new credentialing policy, which could lead to significant issues for the Raiders if not resolved soon.

According to the president of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association, the NFL has introduced a new series of protocols for police officers working games this season. He has expressed concerns over these protocols, which he claims could compromise the personal data of law enforcement members.

The Las Vegas Police Protective Association is objecting to the NFL’s requirement for police officers to submit biometric data, including facial recognition information, on an app to gain clearance to work in specific areas of Allegiant Stadium. He argues that this data could be misused by “anti-cop” groups that support a different agenda than law and order.

“They’re going to take your biometric data – your face,” he said in a video addressed to Vegas cops this month. “And they’re going to use that however they need to. And they’re going to extend that to their NFL family partners to use your information should they need to.”

He is recommending that the NFL revert to its old policy, which involved issuing wristbands or proxy cards to officers. He claims that this approach was more secure and did not compromise the personal data of law enforcement members.

For now, he has confirmed that police officers will continue to work Raiders home games, including their preseason matchup against the Cowboys this weekend, as submitting biometric data is not yet a requirement. However, if the policy is officially enacted by the NFL, he has threatened to advise his members to no longer work the games, which could lead to significant issues for the Raiders.

Attorneys from both sides are currently in talks to resolve the problem, but a resolution has yet to be reached. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. and the NFL have been approached for comment, but no response has been received.
