Hugh Jackman, the seasoned actor, has once again demonstrated his unwavering dedication to his craft, particularly when it comes to playing iconic superhero roles. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jackman shared his grueling experience of preparing for the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine film.
When asked about his physical transformation for the role, Jackman humorously replied, “You eat like steamed rocks or something. What do you have?” He then jokingly added, “Yeah, sometimes I fry the rocks.” In reality, the actor had to consume a staggering 6,000 calories per day to achieve the desired physique.
Hugh Jackman, 55, revealed that he ate 6,000 calories a day while training and preparing for the role in Deadpool & Wolverine, but clarified it wasn’t food like pizza
‘It’s 6,000 calories, and it’s not the calories you necessarily want. Like, half a pizza is 6,000 calories. But no, this is chicken, and it’s tilapia and beans. Tilapia and beans. I don’t know why tilapia. It must be some fish that is lean, and green beans,’ Hugh disclosed
The actor elaborated on his diet, stating, “It’s 6,000 calories, and it’s not the calories you necessarily want. Like, half a pizza is 6,000 calories. But no, this is chicken, and it’s tilapia and beans. Tilapia and beans. I don’t know why tilapia. It must be some fish that is lean, and green beans.”
Jackman’s dedication to his role was further tested when the Hollywood strikes occurred, forcing him to maintain his physique for a longer period than anticipated. He recalled a specific scene where he wanted to focus on his appearance, and how the strike affected the production schedule.
The actor initially thought he was done playing Wolverine after the 2017 film Logan, but a chance encounter with the Deadpool script reignited his passion for the character. He admitted, “I meant it. I really meant it. I believed my lie, I really did. I just thought we had done everything.”
Jackman’s enthusiasm for the project was evident when he shared the story of how he came up with the idea to pair Wolverine with Deadpool. He even remembered the exact date, August 14, 2022, when he had the epiphany and immediately called Ryan Reynolds to pitch the idea.
Jackman revealed how in the wake of last year’s Hollywood strikes, he ended up having to follow that diet for far longer than expected in order to maintain the same shape throughout the production
Jackman even remembers the day when he thought he got the idea and needed to give Ryan Reynolds a call to pitch it to him was ‘August 14, 2022’
The film has since grossed an impressive $1.029 billion at the worldwide box office, exceeding expectations. Jackman’s commitment to his craft has undoubtedly played a significant role in the film’s success.
