Axed After Debut Disaster: Championship Boss Exits Stage Left Amid Crisis Meetings

The first managerial casualty of the 2024-25 season has been revealed, and it’s a shocker. Although the new campaign has only just gotten underway, one manager has already lost his job.

Following crisis talks on Sunday, the decision was made by the club in question to part ways with the manager. The decision came off the back of a defeat in the opening game of the Championship season.

As a result, the club are already on the lookout for a new boss. The search is on, and it’s going to be a busy few days for the club’s hierarchy.

Preston have confirmed that manager Ryan Lowe has left by mutual consent. The decision was made after Preston were beaten 2-0 at home by Sheffield United on Friday.

Lowe had been in charge of Preston since December 2021. Mike Marsh will take charge of Preston for their upcoming games against Sunderland and Swansea, with Peter Murphy and Ched Evans accompanying him.

A statement from Preston director Peter Ridsdale read: ‘Preston North End can confirm that manager Ryan Lowe has left the club by mutual consent.

‘Ryan joined the club in December 2021, leading us to 13th, 12th and 10th-placed finishes in his two and a half seasons as the club’s first team manager.

‘Following discussions that took place on Sunday 11th August, it was mutually agreed that now was an appropriate time for a change to be made.

‘Ryan leaves with the thanks of everyone at the club for his hard work, dedication and commitment, and we wish him and his family the very best for the future.

‘For the two upcoming fixtures against Sunderland and Swansea City this week, Mike Marsh – accompanied by Peter Murphy and Ched Evans – will be in charge of the team.

‘Arrangements beyond these two fixtures will be announced next week.’
