Chelsea and Atletico Madrid Discuss Shock Return of Joao Felix as Samu Omorodion Deal Falters
Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have unexpectedly opened talks over a deal involving Joao Felix, following a sudden hitch in Samu Omorodion’s £34.5 million transfer to Stamford Bridge.
Omorodion was expected to finalize his seven-year contract with an option for an additional year after arriving in London, but negotiations hit an unexpected snag, and despite efforts to find a solution, the move appears to be on the verge of collapse.
Atletico Madrid had hoped to offload Omorodion to offset their deals for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez. While those deals are still in place, Atletico need to find a buyer.
As a result, they have revived discussions over Joao Felix, who previously played for Chelsea on loan and was also a target for Aston Villa. Felix scored four goals in 20 games for Chelsea and spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he netted ten times in 44 appearances.

Felix’s future remains uncertain, despite featuring for Diego Simeone’s side in pre-season. He became the fourth-most expensive player in history in July 2019 when Benfica sold him to Atletico for £114m.
As revealed, Atletico offered Felix to Manchester City as part of a deal for Alvarez. The two clubs eventually reached an initial €75m (£64m) agreement for the Argentinian striker, which will see him leave City just two-and-a-half years after his arrival from River Plate in 2022.
