Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s absence from practice on Friday sparked concern among fans, particularly after he was spotted wearing a medical boot on his surgically repaired ankle during the offseason.
However, Prescott has reassured everyone that he’s doing just fine.
In a conversation with reporters following the Cowboys’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Prescott expressed his confidence in returning to the field when the team practices next on Tuesday, stating that he’s “1,000 percent” committed to making a comeback.
This was Prescott’s first missed practice of training camp, and in fact, his first missed training camp practice since 2021. He wasn’t scheduled to play in Sunday’s preseason game, and it’s unlikely he’ll participate until the regular season, regardless of his health status.
Prescott initially suffered a dislocated ankle and compound fracture in 2020, which required surgery and ended his season. He made a successful return to the lineup in 2021 and has since played in all but five of the Cowboys’ regular-season games. Last season, he finished second in MVP voting behind Lamar Jackson before a disappointing performance in a home playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Earlier this year, Prescott reportedly experienced a mild foot sprain, which led to images surfacing of him wearing a walking boot while on vacation in Mexico. He later posted photos of himself walking without the boot, explaining that he was taking precautionary measures as part of his regular maintenance plan since injuring his ankle in 2020.
Friday’s missed practice reignited concerns that initially arose when he was first spotted wearing a walking boot. The Cowboys downplayed his missed practice as “precautionary,” a message Prescott reiterated on Sunday, stating that he would return to practice on Tuesday.
Prescott is entering the final season of a four-year, $160 million contract with the Cowboys amid failed talks to work out an extension. In Sunday’s 13-12 loss to the Rams, third-string quarterback Trey Lance played and struggled.
