RISING STAR: Oscar Bobb’s Sizzling Debut Sparks Hope for More Minutes at Man City

The Sharpe End: Oscar Bobb Hopes for More Game Time After Impressive Community Shield Display

Following Manchester City’s victory in the Community Shield on Saturday, Oscar Bobb was asked by a TV interviewer if we can expect to see more of him this season. The young City player’s response was optimistic: “I hope so.”

Based on his performance, it’s likely that we will. Bobb had the most touches of any City attacker against Manchester United, created the most chances, and set up Bernardo Silva for the equalizer.

While Manchester United may have lost, their performance was much closer to City’s level than in their previous meeting at Wembley three months ago.

However, it’s worth noting that the Community Shield winner rarely goes on to win the Premier League title. In fact, only one team has achieved this feat in the last 13 seasons – Manchester City in 2018-19.

Match stats from last season’s FA Cup final and Saturday’s Community Shield suggest that United actually performed better this time around, despite the result:

City’s win is the fifth time in the last eight years that the Community Shield has been decided on penalties.

City’s bid to retain their Premier League title will begin next Sunday away at Chelsea.
