Manchester United Close in on Double Swoop from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing a sensational double deal with Bayern Munich, securing the services of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, according to reports. This move is set to transform Erik ten Hag’s defense ahead of the new season.
The Athletic reports that United have agreed on a €50million (£43m) fee for De Ligt, with the Netherlands international set to undergo a medical shortly. The deal includes an initial payment of £38m, with an additional £5m in add-ons.
De Ligt, a key target for Ten Hag this summer, will join on a five-year contract with the option to extend by another 12 months. The 26-year-old centre-back has been a top priority for the United boss, and his arrival will significantly bolster the team’s defense.
In addition to De Ligt, Bayern Munich has also accepted a £17m bid from United for full-back Mazraoui. The proposal includes an initial payment of £13m, with £4m in bonuses. However, this move is contingent on Aaron Wan-Bissaka departing Old Trafford.
West Ham has reportedly agreed on a £15m fee with United for Wan-Bissaka, but talks are ongoing regarding the length of his deal. The 26-year-old full-back must also settle financial matters with the Red Devils before joining the Hammers.
A medical is scheduled for Sunday or Monday, according to The Athletic. Wan-Bissaka has made 190 first-team appearances for United since joining from Crystal Palace in 2019 and has just one year left on his current contract.
Securing De Ligt, formerly of Ajax and Juventus, represents a significant coup for Ten Hag ahead of the Community Shield clash against Manchester City at Wembley. Bolstering his options at the heart of his backline has been a priority for the United boss, and he appears to have finally landed his man.
Mazraoui, who played under Ten Hag during his spell at Ajax, has also entered the final year of his deal at Bayern and can play at left-back. The Morocco defender’s arrival will provide additional depth and quality to United’s defense.
